Kingswood Local Information
Kingswood is a village in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead in
the county of Surrey. The area can be dated back to Saxon times
when it was a part of the Royal Borough of Ewell. After the Norman
Conquest it became a hunting ground and the forest was designated
as a Royal game reserve thus leading to the name Kings Wood.
In 1563 Queen Elizabeth I gave the hamlet of Kingswood to Lord
Howard of Effingham. He became Lord High Admiral of the Armada and
beacons were lit from Plymouth to London signaling the sighting
of the Spanish fleet. The Tumblebeacon pub in Kingswood is on the
site of one such beacon.
Between 1570 and 1770, the village became firmly established and
rural life flourished.
The village has several independent shops and a large mock-Tudor
pub. Kingswood Warren is a 19th century estate in the village and
is home to the BBC’s research and development department and
the financial services group Legal and General also have a large
office in Kingswood.
The village has a railway station but there are no bus services
passing through it. It is however a sought after location and residents
can still see pheasants on the heath and rabbits in the wood.
It doesn’t matter where you go in Kingswood, or anywhere
else in the London area, The Car Hire Company will ensure your van
rental is a comfortable way to travel at a value price.
