Staines is a little town located on the River Thames that is accessible with van hire. There are various sites of interest in this town and one of the earliest sites is the Staines Bridge which was built by the Romans soon after they settled here in 43AD. No one knows if this bridge survived into the Dark Ages, but a wooden bridge was then built in 1222. Later on a stone bridge was constructed in 1796 on the site the modern bridge stands today. The modern bridge has three arches and was built in 1827.
