Motspur Park Local Information
Motspur Park, also known as West Barnes is a suburb of South West
London. Until the end of the 19th century it was a rural area. That
situation didn’t begin to change until the railway station
was built. Although the railway was constructed through the town
in 1859, Motspur Park station was not added until the early part
of the 20th century.
England’s first dual carriageway, the Kingston Bypass, was
built in 1926 just north of the town. The building of this road
prompted further residential development in the town. The area finally
began suburban development between the two world wars, with rows
of terraced houses being constructed.
There is only one public house in Motspur Park, The Earl Beatty,
named after David Beatty who commanded a significant part of the
British naval fleet at the Battle of Jutland.
For a long time the major employer in the area was the Decca gramophone
record company. The company diversified during the Second World
War to make radar systems.
Motspur Park has several playing fields. Probably the most famous
is Fulham football club’s training ground. Originally an athletics
ground, owned by the University of London, it was used in the film
‘Chariots of Fire’.
Wherever you go in Motspur Park, or anywhere else in Britain, The
Car Hire Company will ensure that you receive the perfect van hire
