Catford Local Information

Catford is a suburb in the borough of Lewisham (in fact, Lewisham’s Council is housed in the Catford Town Hall, and the council has been located in Catford since 1875).

It’s not too many suburbs that have their own black fibreglass model of a panther above its local shopping centre. This rather unusual sculpture is because Catford gets its name from the wild cats that used to cross the River Ravensbourne in Saxon times. Make sure you have your wedding day photos beneath the fantastic black feline.

Go by car hire and see the public house that Karl Marx used to frequent – the Black Horse and Harrow, which is dated to approximately 1700 (although the present building dates to 1897).
