Stoke D'Abernon Local Information
Stoke D’Abernon is a little village positioned in between
Leatherhead and Cobham. It comes under the county of Surrey.
Stoke D'Abernon went through a few name changes over time before
finally settling on one. In the 11th century the city was known
as, “Stocke.” Then in the 12th century the name was
changed to “Estokes,” later to be changed to Stokes
D'Abernon in the 13th century. In the 14th century, it was named
Stokes Daberoun, and then Stoke Dabernon, followed by Dabernoun
and Daubernoun in the 15th and 16th centuries, later to be called
Stoke d'Alborne in 1843. Finally, after all those name changes,
in the early 20th century, Stoke D'Abernon took to the name it uses
today.
Getting around Stoke D'Abernon in a car hire is essential to see
all the sites available. If you are a keen Chelsea Football team
fan then your first stop in your car hire should be to check out
the clubs training ground. Other place of interest is the Stoke
D’Abernon Cricket Club situated in the recreation grounds
on Stoke Road. The club comes under the Surrey Cricket Board and
runs eight youth teams, two women’s colt teams and adult men’s
teams participating in the Fuller’s Surrey County League.
