Chiswick Local Information
Chiswick is Old English for ‘cheese farm’, although
it started as a fishing village. By the early 1800s the centuries-old
tradition of using the old Chiswick waterfront to deliver goods
to the area was in decline as industry and the newly-invented flushing
toilet meant the river was becoming increasingly polluted.
Now Chiswick is described as a leafy, attractive and expensive suburb.
Although primarily residential it also hosts retail and eating outlets,
offices and hotels. It is becoming increasingly popular as a leisure
destination, helped by the fact that the brewery located there produces
the Fuller, Smith and Turner ales, and have done so for 350 years.
Car hire is one way to get around Chiswick to see the town and enjoy
the delicious aromas of the many cafes and restaurants.
Chiswick House, built in 1726-1729, is considered to be one of
the best surviving examples of Palladian buildings in Britain. The
grounds surrounding the house are one of the most historically important
in England and Wales and the beautiful stone bridge on the grounds
was built in 1744. More beautiful flora can be seen along Stavely
Road so take a drive in your car hire and view the spectacular cherry
blossoms lining 500 metres of the road.
Saint Nicholas Church has a tower that dates back to the 1400s,
although the church itself was rebuilt in 1882-1884.
By using our car hire your guaranteed to have a relaxing day as
we deliver your car hire to your house and pick it up afterwards
– making a hassle-free day of touring your local suburb.
