The Streatham Hill Theatre is now a bingo hall and has three cinemas, a ballroom and now a nightclub. With the addition of the local tram services Streatham grew into a shopping center and has many great shops to choose from.

Streatham means “the hamlet on the street”. The street was called Roman Road from the capital Londinium to the coast near Portslade. The destination was a Roman port, which is now lost due to coastal erosion. The road is now referred to as Sane Street.

In the 1950s, Streatham had the longest and busiest shopping street in south London. Streatham has a Waitrose shopping centre which opened in 1955. A lot of new shops and restaurants have also opened recently making Streatham a good place to go shopping and to eat.
