Keston Local Information
Keston is found on the edge of Hayes Common and is part of the London
Borough of Bromley. It is a relatively new village only dating back
to the early 1900s. The River Ravensbourne originates here and runs
11 miles through the boroughs of Bromley, Lewisham and Greenwich.
In 1923 the Earl of Derby owned the land on which the current gated
community, Keston Park, now stands. Back then it was known as Holwood
Estate, after Holwood House. Frederick Rogers purchased 143 acres
from the Earl in 1923 with a view to creating Keston Park –
the land was subsequently known as Keston Lodge Estate, after the
house on the land that was occupied by Lady Ashton. The Lodge later
became Keston Park Hotel and was demolished in the 1960s to make
room for Keston Park Close. The Lodge stables were demolished too
in the late 1970s for land to build some houses in Forest Ridge.
Take your minibus hire from Croydon Road to Forest Ridge/Forest
Drive and imagine driving up to the old house past the stables and
arriving to the south of the house.
Drive in your minibus hire and see if you can locate the remains
of Keston Lodge behind what used to called Jesmond Cottage (now
Bushwood) on Forest Drive. There certainly exists Holwood House
and some old lodges, still to be found easily in your minibus hire,
around Keston Park.
