East Ham Local Information

East Ham is a place in the London Borough of Newham. It is a built-up district located 8 miles (12.8 km) east north-east of the popular railway station Charing Cross. In 1859, the East Ham Railway Station opened and, although in 1863 the area was still being described as a "scattered village," the availability of transport resulted in increasing urbanization that began from the 1890’s where the population tripled in about a decade. East Ham is now a thriving town with around 40,000 inhabitants, many from around the globe.

Up until the 19th century little of note happened with East Ham which was a rural village acting as a gateway between London and Essex. But the expansion of the Royal Docks area changed it forever.
