In our quest to find you unusual names of suburbs in the London area, we are pleased to bring you Carshalton! Carshalton is located in the Borough of Sutton, in the valley of the River Wandle. Carshalton Ponds, in the centre of Carshalton, are one of the sources for the river.

Relics from the Neolithic and Iron ages have been found to the south of Carshalton, and in the Domesday Book it is recorded as Aultone – in 1150 ‘caerse’ (Old English for water cress) was added. Several old buildings still exist in the town, among them the All Saints Church, which overlooks the ponds. Although the current church contains works dating back to the 1100s, it is believed that a church has stood on the site since Norman times. At the western end of the ponds stands the stately home of Honeywood. It has been around since the 1600s, but has been extended and restored over the years. Take your team around their local area in your minibus hire and drive down the beech-tree lined streets in the Carshalton Beeches area, and visit the lavender farms that still produce lavender oil in the district.
