Motspur Park is also known as West Barnes and is a suburb in South
West London and crosses the boundaries of the London Borough of
Merton and the Royal Borough of Kingston. Motspur Park railway station
has four trains per hour running to Waterloo, London and is adjacent
to a small parade of shops. There are two natural water courses
which run through the local areas one of which is the Beverly Brook
and the other is the Pyl Brook. This has given some cause to local
flooding.
The Motspur Park athletics stadium was built in 1928 by the University
of London and the world mile record was set there on August 28th
in 1938 by Sydney Charles Wooderson in 4 minutes and 6.4 seconds.
The stadium was subsequently sold to Fulham Football Club as their
training ground in 1999.
