Merton Park is an almost entirely residential area in the borough of Merton, known for its tree-lined streets of semi detached houses. John Innes was the founder of Merton Park and in his name was established the John Innes Society, dedicated to safeguarding and improving the natural and built environment in and around Merton. Innes lived in Merton and was known as the ‘squire of Merton’ and his bequest founded the first horticultural institute in England.
