Holloway is a suburb in the borough of Islington, and is the home to the Nag’s Head area, right in the centre of Holloway. It is very multicultural and very densely populated. The A1 (Holloway Road) runs through Holloway and was once called the Great North Road and has been in existence in some form since 1318, when it was constructed by the then Bishop of London. Drive up the A1 in your car hire and picture the road it was 700 years ago.

Ashburton Grove in Holloway is now home to the Arsenal Football Club’s home ground, after 93 years in Highbury just next door. The stadium is the second biggest stadium in the Premier League after Old Trafford, and the third biggest in London, after Wembley and Twickenham Stadiums.

The Nag’s Head is an area in Holloway named after the Nag’s Head pub and although the pub went through some name changed and is now closed down, the name stuck to the Nag’s Head Market and the Nag’s Head Shopping Centre. Take a drive to Nag’s Head in your car hire and shop at the markets while you’re in the area.

Built in 1814, the Saint Mary Magdalene church contains the last organ created by George England, who died in 1815, a year after it was finished. It was hardly played until the 1860s, when Father Henry Willis arrived at the church. Willis built the organs that remain to this day at the Royal Albert Hall, Saint Paul’s Cathedral, Alexandra Palace and Saint George’s Hall, Liverpool. The organ was restored in 1947, but by 2002 it was found to be in advanced state of repair.
