Banstead borders with Greater London and is a town in Surrey. The Borough of Reigate and Banstead is where Banstead is situated within which is on the North Downs and is protected by the Green Belt. Banstead Village is another name for Banstead.

The education facilities in Banstead have a very good reputation with five primary schools – Banstead Infant School, Banstead Community Junior School, St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Warren Mead Infant School and Warren Mead Junior School – and one secondary school – The Beacon offering comprehensive education. There are preparatory schools available as well with Aberdour School, Greenacre School and Priory School being within Banstead. Further education is not available in the Borough but neighbouring Boroughs have excellent facilities for this such as Nescot College in Epsom, Merton College in Morden and Carshalton College in Carshalton.

Banstead is bypassed by the A217 dual carriageway to the west. The A2022 goes through the residential area just to the north of the town centre but Banstead frequently does suffer from traffic congestion. There are many bus services connecting to Epsom, Sutton and Croydon which all of the locations have excellent onward connections.

Banstead has an old well in Woodmansterne Lane to the east of the town centre. The well is nearly 330 feet deep and was used last in the 19th Century. The wellhead cover goes back to the 18th Century and still has the winding gear.
