Wickham Court Manor has an interesting history and it is mentioned
in the Doomsday Book of 1066. A family called the Heyden’s
acquired the property in the 15th century. The family were of lesser
gentry and were very ambitious. Henry Heyden who was the son of
John Heyden married Anne who was the daughter of Sir Geoffrey Sullen
and he was the Mayor of London in 1469. This Anne happened to be
the great aunt of Anne Boleyn the second wife of Henry VIII. The
Sullen family were very established in the Kent area and they lived
in the very famous Hever Castle. The old manor house was rebuilt
and has been altered and extended over the years. Sir William Heyden
sold the manor house and the whole estate to the Lennard family
in 1580.
The house stayed in the Lennard family until 1935 when it was sold
and made into a hotel. During World War II the Manor House was requisitioned
by the military and was used by the Canadian Air Force and the A.T.S.
After the war it went back to being a hotel for a few years. The
proprietor of the hotel Mr Anderson sold the Manor House to the
Daughters of Mary and Joseph who turned it into Coloma College.
