West Ewell Local Information

West Ewell at the end of the 19th century was known as Upper and Lower Marsh. The area consisted mainly of farmland including Park Farm, Fitznell's Farm, Poplar Farm and Scott’s Farm. There were a few dwellings, which were mostly the homes formerly occupied by workers at the nearby Gunpowder mills on the Hogsmill. Two explosions, and an inquest took a toll in the 1860’s, and the area was slowly rebuilt.

Today, the town is still referred to as a “village” by residents because of its rural feel and architecture. Despite it’s location on the southern edge of Greater London, West Ewell enjoys the quiet life blended in with the modern luxuries of the 21st century to make a truly unique area.
