West Ealing - Local Information.

West Ealing is a suburb in the London Borough of Ealing and in its current form has been around for less than 100 years. In 1234 there was a hamlet called West Ealing but at some stage its name changed to Ealing Dean and then back to West Ealing again (the references to Ealing Dean only go back as far as 1456 and it appeared on a parish map dated 1777 – most of what is East Ealing nowadays was country and fields then). In 1871 West Ealing station started its life as Castle Hill and Ealing Dean station. So Ealing has had numerous name changes over the years.

The Broadwalk Hotel was once known as the Halfway House (in the 1800s), and it was there that the coach from London to Banbury and Oxford called in – the name Halfway House can still be seen in the semi-circle at the top of the building. It has recently been sold.

In 2001 London’s only street market selling only fresh produce opened, and runs on Saturdays and is called Ealing Farmer’s Market. Our car hire fleet includes cars with large boots so you can conveniently store a large quantity of items from your trip to the lively market.
