Raynes Park is a little but busy town which has rail links to London, Waterloo Station /Clapham Junction and Epsom/Dorking. Wimbledon is the nearest tube station which is the District Line. Raynes Park also has extensive bus links to Colliers Wood, New Malden, Kingston on Thamesand Streatham. Bushey Road, A238, is a fast moving dual carriageway coming from the A3 which takes the direction of central London.
There are many bars, cafes and restaurants within the area including a J D Wetherspoons, The Edward Rayne. Raynes Park has a library just a short distance from the railway station which has been newly refurbished. Macarthy and Stone have redeveloped the existing library into independent living for the elderly with warden assistance and the library is located underneath this development.
Also on Bushey Road is the David Lloyd Club which is situated on St Georges playing fields which also includes the Raynes Park Vale F.C which is a Sunday league team. The fields are also used for other purposes and annually Santa’s Circus performs. This centre has many amenities, including tennis courts, gymnasium, bowling, dance classes, aerobics and also has crèche facilities. There are restaurants and bars within the centre as well.
Many famous people have lived in Raynes Park including publicist Max Clifford and actor Richard Briers. Also, Paul Merton attended Wimbledon College. Children’s presenter Dave Benson-Phillips also attended Raynes Park High School. Sharon Osborne lived in Wimbledon Village for many years.
