Greenwich Local Information

Greenwich is a town steeped in history and one wouldn’t know where to start when ticking off the sights to see. Using your car hire would be one way to see the sights of buildings with mixed history and usages.

The Dreadnoughts Seaman’s Hospital started its life in 1764 as the Royal Naval Hospital Infirmary for naval officers and now houses a library.

The Old Royal Naval College began as a palace called Bella Court, but became the Palace of Placentia in 1447 when the owner (Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester and Regent of England) passed away. It became the palace of Henry VIII, and as a fan of the navy he built the dockyards at nearby Woolwich and Deptford.

The Cutty Sark is an historic boat located at Greenwich, and unfortunately it was badly damaged by fire in May 2007. Thankfully, though, it was undergoing restoration at the time and much of its priceless parts was actually in storage at the time, and escaped the fire.
