Caterham Local Information

Caterham is located in the Tandridge District of Surrey; it lies just south of Croydon in a valley cut into the North Downs. An IRA bomb once targeted Caterham’s local pub, The Caterham Arms.

Caterham has lots of shops and restaurants, which hiring a car from The Car Hire Co would make visiting much easier. Caterham is also home to Caterham Cars, the makers of the Caterham Seven sports car, who are based on Station Avenue. In 2007 Caterham Cars will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.

Caterham has many local sports teams, the football teams Caterham Pumas and Queens Park FC, as well as the local rugby team Old Caterhamians, which was established in 1928. Ther are also the Caterham Sea Cadets formed in 1942,who participate in a number of waters sports activities.

In 1877 Caterham barracks on the hill was a depot for the foot guards regiment, but unfortunately the barracks have been closed and redeveloped into housing.
